The operation must be performed in the specific context of the Service Control Manager, not in Visual Studio. For this reason, debugging software is not as easy as debugging other types of Visual Studio applications. Then, to debug the service, you have to start the service and attach a functional debugger to the process in which it is running. You can then debug your application using almost all of the standard Visual Studio debugging features.

You can only attach a debugger to a running service. The add process interrupts the current activity of your service; it does not stop or suspend the processing service. That is, if your service was running when you started debugging, it is technically still in the Started state while debugging and processing have been paused.

Once mounted in the process, you can set breakpoints and use them to debug your code. If you exit the process preparation dialog, you are correctly in debug mode. To Debug The Service

Create your service in debug config.
Install the service. For more information, see How To: Install and Remove Services .
Start one of the services through Service Control Manager, Server Explorer, or from the system. For more information, see How to start services .
Start Visual Studio with public credentials so they can be attached to system processes if desired.
(Optional) Select Advanced, Options from the Studio’s Visual Menu. In the Options dialog box, select Debug, Symbols, InstallSelect the Microsoft Symbol Servers check box, and then click the new OK button.

Tips For Debugging Windows In Services
