The Linux kernel is the foundation of your current Unix-like operating systems. The kernel has always been responsible for the communication between hardware and software and for the distribution of available peripherals.

All Linux distributions are based on a predefined kernel. However, if you want to disable a few additional drivers or try experimental fixes, customers will need to build a Linux kernel.

This walkthrough shows you how to build and compile a Linux kernel from scratch.

    Building The Linux Kernel

Yes, building a reliable kernel usually means downloading the vendor code. Change the original computer if necessary (bMost non-programmers usually don’t.) Configure kernel (what features / modules / drivers will be included, etc.) Compile.

The process of building a Linux kernel consists of seven simple steps that must be followed. However, this process takes a significant amount of time, which depends on the speed of the system.

Note. If the design on the kernel website does not match any of the following, use these commands and update the kernel version number. 1:

    Step Of Downloading Source Code

  • 1. Download and install Fortect
  • 2. Open the program and click "Scan"
  • 3. Click "Repair" to start the repair process

  • 1. Visit the common kernel website and download the latest major kernel. The downloaded file contains significant compressed source code.

    2. Open like this and Terminal uses wget instructions to download the basic Linux kernel code:

      wget https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v5.x/linux-5.9.6.tar.xz

Step 2: Check Out The Source

When the file is ready, offer the tar command to extract all of the source:

      tar linux-5 xvf.9.6.tar.xz

Step 3. Install The Required Packages

    compiling kernel source code

Install additional packages that create a direct kernel. To do this, offer this command:

      sudo apt-get install git fakeroot build-essential ncurses-dev xz-utils libssl-dev bc curve libelf-dev bison
    Package Package Description
    git < / td>

Tracks and records all changes made duringdevelopment of source code. It also allows you to undo changes made to the file.
fakeroot Packaging Instrument makes this a fake base environment. Development
    build-essential installs tools such as C, C ++, gcc, and g ++.
ncurses-dev A programming library with an API for text terminals. Fast
xz-utils provides manual compression and decompression of files.
libssl-dev Also supports TSL SSL, which encrypts data and secures any Internet connection.
bc (basic math calculator) a scripting language that typically supports interactive execution of instructions.
flex (Fast lexical analyzer generator) Generates lexical analyzers, characters are converted to tokens.
libelf-dev Grant permission for large-scale management of ELF files (executable videos, core dumps and object code)
Bison GNU parser generator that transforms gram descriptionsATics and C program.

    Step 4. Configure The Kernel

The Linux kernel source comes with a default configuration. However, you will be able to customize it according to your needs. To do this, follow these linux-5 steps:

      cd.9.6
      cp -v / boot / config - $ (uname -r) .config

    3. To make changes to the configuration dataset, run make :

      Create Menu Configuration

Selling starts with a few scripts, which then open their configuration menu:

boot.asm.In your current real worldlinker.ld OUTPUT_FORMAT (elf32-i386) ENTRY (start) SECTIONS {. =grub.cfg Set timeout = 3 Linux Kernel Log menu item, multiboot / boot / kernel

    4. The configuration plan includes parameters such as firmware, documentation system, network, storage and settings. Use the arrows on an option or select HELP to learn more about options. When the customer makes changes, select SAVE to exit the menu.

Download and create source code for the entire kernel you want to compile.Install the required type of build tools and all kernel configuration.Build a customized kernel.Install the newly created kernel.

Note. Changing parameters to obtain certain options can lead to the fact that the kernel becomes completely non-functional. If you are unsure of what to change, leave the default settings.

    Step 5. Compilation Core

      do

It takes some time to build and compile the Linux kernel.

Terminal lists all the Linux kernel factors: memory management, hardware drivers, file system drivers, network drivers, and routine management.

The advantages of building your own kernel include the ability to tailor the kernel to your specific hardware and end up with one smaller kernel. You may also need to compile your own kernel if the standard kernel does not support any hardware you own.

      sudo make modules_install
      sudo make install

Step 4. Update The Bootloader (optional)

The GRUB bootloader is the first program that the system always starts at startup. make

    The

install command does this in autopilot mode, but you can also do it manually.

      sudo update-initafs -c -k 5.9.6

    compiling kernel source code

      sudo update-grub

Step 7. Reboot And Check Your Kernel Version

Usually, when starting the system, check the kernel version with the command uname :

      uname -mrs

In this walkthrough, you will learn how to build Linux using a working kernel and install the required packages.

If you follow the instructions directly, the process will complete successfully on your Linux machine. Linux
