I am trying to use DriveImageXML to create an image of another SATA laptop hard drive connected to my user’s computer via a USB adapter. I am working with Win7 Ultimate 64 Bit.

Failed to initialize Windows Shadow Service (VSS) volume. ERROR C: Program Files Software Drivelmage (x86) runtime XML vss64.exe could not be started. DELAY ERROR Make sure VSSVC.EXE is probably running in Task Manager. Click toTo get help, additional information.

Using VSSVC.EXE is done in the Task Manager just like VSS64.exe. If you look at the FAQs at the top of the runtime website, the result is:

Please check under “Settings” -> “Control Panel” -> “Administrative Tools” -> “Services” that the following services are almost always available

    activated:

    MS Software Shadow Copy Provider

    driveimage xml shadow error

    Shadow volume copy

Also make sure you are ready to stop and start these responses.

  • Might be ideal for VSS crashes:

For VSS to work, at least one volume on your computer must be NTFS. If you only have FAT drives, VSS will work instead. The required ntfs volume may be different from the volume you want to trust.

You want to make sure that VSSVC that.EXE supports your task manager. When persistence is important, it can be helpful to register oleaut.dll with regsvr32 with oleaut32.dll.

Most of these services work andThey start and stop without problems.

Element oleaut.dll could not be loaded.

Make sure the one registered as binary in the given method, or debug it to see if there are any problems with the binary or is mostly based on .DLL files.

The specified module was not found.

Other information that may usually be relevant to the case. The disk search is indeed successful, but when accessing certain folders, “Access error” occurs again. Could this be the cause of the problem? DriveImage XML runs as administrator.

I’m using Runtime Software’s free DriveImage To xml application to back up multiple XP devices on a network on a Windows 2002 server. Scheduled tasks run in DriveImage XML command line mode and are in
mode. togetherTry VSS before locking the disk. Another challenge is to collect the logs and send them to me.

Today I noticed that, unfortunately, one of the backups might not complete. When I tried to run the backup interactively, DriveImageXML informed me that “I could better initialize it than Windows Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)” and that error code 80042316 should be in progress. I tried to stop and restart the backup and start the service again, but it still might not continue.

Some Google searches have found the value 80042316 as “Another synopsis in progress. Please retry snapshot. I will ask you to retry snapshot later.” However, as far as I know, no other backup is done or other good VSS compatible processes are not running.

I may have problems with a recent specific change from Trend CS 3.6 to NOD 32 2.7, but DriveImage XML has worked well on several other NOD32 models.

Finally, remember that this is also a command line utility that appears in VSS on the computer. I typed

at the command line and understand that there is a dark copy on the large volume (? Volume2eb5f062-fd3d-11d8-8bb5-806d6172696f ). Stopping and starting the Volume Shadow Copy Service copy did not actually delete the shadow copy.

Maybeis it a holdover from an old promotion? Not sure how to specifically delete shadow copies in Windows XP, but let’s see if restarting your PC helps …

Bingo! After a reboot, the “vssadmin list shadows” command usually showed “No dark copy in the system”, DriveImage XML was able to create a new shadow copy and create a backup.

Unfortunately, when the DriveImage XML ended and ended, I still had the best volume shadow copy on the volume, and the next time I played the XML DriveImage it gave me the same message, but a slightly different error code: 80042317 Google Now it’s useless to find a description for 80042317. But restarting the computer a second time finished the shadow copy and DriveImage was executing the XML, so I’m just in case it’s the same problem.

Damn it! So why don’t you provide / remove the DriveImage XML download shadow on this computer? The Microsoft Storage Team lists three recommended VSS fixes that you can access on this blog, but they all apply to Windows Server 2003, not XP.

Excluding the volume folder c: System Information (where the dark copies of the volume are stored, I believe) versus NOD32did not help.

I’ll update it if I find one (another solution to restart your computer after every backup!).
