Here’s my short version. I bought a fully developed model A1237 of the original Macbook Air. The hinges were damaged and the projector screen didn’t display well – there were lines everywhere and you couldn’t see what you were doing. Anyway, I replaced the screen, hard drive, sound card, caps and pretty much everything, one by one to get the MBA back to jogging on the treadmill and get rid of the panic core I keep getting, basically. Replacing original Apple parts. Invested in replacing the screen – and of course checked compatibility etc. I eventually found that when I manually turned on the backlight or the ambient sensor set the backlight to maximum – this was the only time I had a definite panic. The rest works perfect. The strange thing is that I bought the original MBA disk which will include a brand new MBA – and if I wipe the whole hard drive and install Leopard 10.5. some there is no kernel panic. If I update via general 10.5.2 I getI panic. So this tells me that not everything is hardware, and I have confirmed that some hardware and firmware are popular en masse today. I thought it would be so easy to update the firmware. I’ve tried everything, learned everything – I’m at every end of my rope in this guide – please help.

Also, if you need repairs – tried test users, upgrade to snow leopard and lion – Apple Store, anything you can do without a reliable workaround – Apple Store ordered me, it was material. But if that’s the case, then 10.5.2 should be panicking too. Other forums are full of articles and support posts about this problem – usually it’s about fixing the new MBA display and how they freaked out after that – but maybe no one got an answer, this also works.
