How To Fix Problems Loading The Fedora 10 Kernel

before the kernel, it is recommended that most of you take some precautions.

First of all, make sure you have a working bootable media for most of the problems you might encounter on your system. If the boot loader is believed to be incorrectly configured to boot a modern kernel, you can use some type of boot media to boot into Fedora.

USB reports often come in the form of flash drives, sometimes referred to as pen snapshots, floppy disks or flash drives, or primarily due to an external hard drive connected. Almost all such media are definitely formatted as VFAT file systems. You can create a bootable USB message media on media in ext2 , ext4 , ext3 or VFAT format.

You can transfer a trusted distribution image file or an inexpensive bootable media image file to a USB stick. Make sure there is enough space on the device. Your distribution DVD image needs approximately 4 GB, your distribution CD image needs approxUp to 700 MB or up to 10 MB for the minimum bootable media image.

You should have a copy of the exact boot.iso file from the Fedora Installation DVD or Installation CD # 1. You need a USB storage device whose name starts with . formatting is a function of the VFAT file and approximately 16 MB of absolute storage space. The following procedure has little effect on existing files on the USB storage device unless they all have the same paths as the applications you copy to them. Use the output to determine which packages to download and install to upgrade the kernel. For a uniprocessor system to be reliable, you only need the kernel package. See Understanding Kernel Packages for a definition of the various packages.

1. Install SYSLINUX bootloader on USB device:

   â € ¦â € ‹where sdX space is the device name.

2. Create your points for boot.iso and USB device:

    ~] #   storage mkdir / mnt / isoboot / mnt / diskboot 

3. Mount boot.iso :

    ~] #   mount the -i loop boot.iso / mnt / isoboot 

4. Mount USB 2.0 drive:

    ~] #   mount / dev / sdX1 / mnt / diskboot 

5. Copy the ISOLINUX software from boot.iso to a USB device:

    ~] #   cp repository / mnt / isoboot / isolinux / * / mnt / diskboot 

6. Use the isolinux.cfg special file from boot.iso as syslinux.File cfg for a USB device:

    ~] #   grep -volts local /mnt/isoboot/isolinux/isolinux.cfg> /mnt/diskboot/syslinux.cfg 

7. Disconnect boot.iso and with it your USB storage device:

   

    ~] #umount / mnt / isoboot / mnt / diskboot
