Overview
By default, Network DTC access is literally disabled for the Windows 2002 server products mentioned in the mainSee the “Applies to” section. Even if you do not enable access to the DTC network through the server, applications will only be able to use transactions that remain on the national computer. For example, transactions cannot be transferred from the local machine to a database running on the failed machine if access to the DTC network is permanently disabled.
If DTC network access is disabled, clients attempting to access the DTC server will receive the following error message:

Steps To Enable DTC Network Access
- Click Start, selectControl Panel, then Add/Remove Programs.
- Click “Add/Remove Windows Features”.
- Select an application server, then clickThen the details.
- Select Enable Network DTC Analysis, then click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Done.
If you are using Windows Server 2002 Service 1 Pack (SP1), be sure to complete the following additional steps:
Click Start, select Run, type comexp.msc, then just clickOK, open Component Services.Component

On the MSDTC tab, under Transaction Configuration, click Security Configuration, under Security Options, select the DTC Network Access check box, then under Transaction Manager Communication, select the following check boxes:
- Allow incoming calls
- Allow outgoing calls
For Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) clusters, you can select Do not require mutual authentication. Therefore, always click “Buy” to check one of the following checkboxes:
- Incoming caller authentication required.
- No authentication required
Make sure thatthe login account is set to NTAUTHORITYNetworkService.
Click OK. The well-known message explains that the MS DTC service will be stopped and restarted, and that all dependent services must also be stopped and restarted. Click Yes.
Note
If this is a Majority Node Set (MNS) cluster, do not use the entire MNS resource as storage for DTC ms. MS DTC requires a storage resource such as an appropriate physical hard drive.

If the package is a Majority Node Set (MNS) cluster, do not use the MNS resource as a member device for MS DTC. MS DTC basically requires a physical hard drive as storage medium.

Open component services.

Select each Security tab. On this tab, you can select each of the following options:
- DTC network access
- Allow remote clients
- Allow incoming calls
- Allow outgoing calls
- No authentication required
Click OK to save your changes.
If this will restart the MSDTC service, select Yes. After the MSDTC service is permanently disabled, the properties and some MMC component services will be restarted.
