This is not supported in VirtualBox and thus prevents virtual Ubuntu from starting. I get this message when trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 as a VirutalBox 4.1.18 guest on an Ubuntu 10.04 host.

For comparison / verification, I downloaded Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon and used it on some same host on the same virtualExtreme machine (just got an improved .iso image). It worked. Its ISO: linuxmint-13-cinnamon-dvd-32bit.iso

It seems (to me) that I have pae .. what a trip here?

Update: I assumed Linux Mint was also asking for pae (since it’s based on Ubuntu), but I just started it; grep --color = always - my wife and I PAE / proc / cpuinfo in the Mint VM. No results displayed. So the problem seems to be coming from VirtualBox. If so, how do I put Virtualbox into pae mode?
