Recently, some of our readers reported that, in their experience, the definition of base class objects was not found in document form.

I tried to use ASDocs to generate documentation for multiple Action 3 script files and got the exact error:

The class is associated with the fl.controls library. I used Flash Professional CS5 to write forms and order strings as ASDoc.

I’ve watched other people do this and obviously they can use FlashDeveloper or Flex Builder, I don’t have either. They usually add, for example, the -libarary-path that Flex Builder will handle, but it looks like a lot of them have been dropped. I tried the path too:

I basically spent about the evening trying to use ASDoc and all I can say is what a nightmare! If I liked such unintuitive, problematic, bad backmodified ridicule, I would be Linux (not a user! I mean an insult, but you Linux people seem to benefit from this kind of advice!)

Our project has many external classes in collections (one of which is papervision, others are various media plug-in libraries), and I would probably prefer not to try to copy them all on paper in the same form. And I couldn’t figure out which method to use to keep ASDocs from compiling classes around libraries.

And if you don’t include your local library, the document will crash! So I can either include them in the exact docs (which seem to have expired anyway) or just exclude them. But now is there a way to not include them?

It turns out they list here and there all the flair you want to exclude! Uh-huh, probably about 2000 lessons, so this won’t happen!

Although this is usually a convenient way to modify a HUGE list of classes with an AIR application, Dita. But I think I’ve already given some guidelines on how to use ASDocs so comprehensively that you don’t need them anymore.

The big secret in Oh, that is not so, it seems, in me! demonstrate that when you add swc-Apply it can no longer fail to find the classes you referenced. Most importantly, it doesn’t try to help you with your paperwork!

Here’s how we set it up:

Step a: Configure the external product in Flex.

Open Flex Builder (we only use FB 3). Do you see the little golf button with the suitcase? In the top left corner? Then click the down arrow on the path and then “Open External Knowledge Dialog Box”.

Click the Start New Configuration button. these are the white sides of the sheet with a “+” sign in relation to it.

Give it a name. ASDocs perhaps boils down to something so unimaginable. Then set the field “Location via flight”; Click Browse System File and locate the ASDoc file in the Flex SDK. For me it was / Applications / Flex Builder 3 / sdks / 4.0.0.4021 / bin / asdoc. If you are on a PC, you should probably point to asdoc.exe.

In the Working Directory field, design $ project_loc This – points to the appropriate project folder for the project someone is currently in.

This assumes that you have configured the capabilities using a default source folder named src. So look into the src folder of your own project to find each of the classes you want to create files for.

And then add arguments to reference the SWCS for the products in your library, because we are:

This assumes, of course, that you are using the library assignments in Flex Builder. I think they will work as long as the client has swcs for code archives. In any case, you have to be the leader.

I’m sure this won’t work for all of you right now, but even so I haven’t seen this approach archived anywhere, so I thought it might help. And good luck !
