Determining the version installed by the Java runtime:

1. Open the control panel. Control Panel is located in the Start menu by clicking Start Control Panel> Control Panel or Start> Settings Control Panel> Control Panel. In Windows 8, right-click Startup Chooser, then select Control Panel.
2. Normally, double-click a Java entry in the Control Panel to open the Java Control Panel. If you don’t see Java, switch to the Java icon or view in the search bar.

2. Double-click the Java entry in the Control Panel to open the Java Control Panel.

5. When prompted by UAC, click Yes.



6. Java will now either tell you that you have already installed the most innovative version of Java, or it will tell the whole family that there is an update. If an update is required, follow the instructions to update the date using the automatic update client.



* Note. It is important to install only one of the latest versions of the Java runtime, as older versions may be vulnerable. Previous versions of the Java Runtime Environment are not always removed with updates. Follow the instructions below to remove all previous versions.

Removing old versions of the Java Runtime:

1. Open commands from the start menu.

3. Find XX Java (TM) 6 Update in the list.
4. Select the most outdated versions and click Remove.
5. Click Yes to uninstall your own update.
6. Repeat steps 2-4 for all versions of the Java runtime except the most recent one.
