Troubleshooting Vista Service Pack 2 Offline Installation

Click the Start button , Computer, right-click and select Properties.

If Service Pack 2 is listed in the Windows Edition section, Service Pack 2 is considered to be already installed on your computer and you do not need to follow the specific instructions below.

• Log in to your personal computer with an administrator account, make sure all other users are not logged in, and close most open programs.

• Some antivirus programs can prevent SP2 from installing completely or slow down reinstallation. You can try to temporarily restrict the antivirus software. If you have done so, you should be aware of the risks involved and usually activate it after installing my service pack.

• Make sure you have enough free space to install SP2 (although most of that space will be freed up after this installation).

If on your computerthe program is used to automatically install updates, Windows Update sometimes prompts you to configure SP2. Follow the instructions on the screen. If you are not prompted to install SP2, follow these steps:

1. Make sure you are connected to my internet.

2. Click the actual launch button tap Programs, Everyone, and then click Windows Update.

3. To use the updates, click “Check” in the left pane.

4. Click Show Available Updates. In the list of updates, select Microsoft Service Pack for Windows (KB948465), then click Install . Typically, when prompted for an administrator or security confirmation, enter a password or password for confirmation.

If you are having problems getting the service pack using Windows Update, you can download SP2 as a separate installation package from the Microsoft Download Center website, and then install SP2 inmanual.

1. To install SP2 directly, click Open or Run and follow the instructions for your filter. To install SP2 later, click Save to copy the installation time of the file to your computer. To install the service pack, open the file that you copied to your computer.

2. Click Next on the Welcome to Windows Vista Service Pack 2 page.

If you have installed SP2 in your company, you can uninstall it. However, if SP2 is permanently installed on your computer (integrated installation), it can be uninstalled.

2. Under Programs and Features, click View Installed Updates.

3. On the Uninstall and Update page, click Microsoft… Windows Service Pack (KB948465), and then click Uninstall.

4. Follow all instructions on the screen.
