AuthorSubject: Pagefile.sys Infection: Win32: PcClient-OD [Trj] (4299 Reads)
It was recently discovered that my pagefile.sysone of my hard drives (not the main one, but only the broadcast memory) was infected with Win32: PcClient-OD [Trj]. The weird thing is that it was my system for setting “auto paging file size for each drive” and I don’t think there ever was a paging file. Also, I manually configured the paging files and set the disk to No – and therefore I still get the warning.
After some research on these forums, it turned out that there are several false positives regarding swap files. Could this be one of our cases?
This is difficult to express and by default the Pagefile. Is system is ignored by on-demand crawling. So I’m not sure why it was scanned in the last check (what exactly scans when you run?).
If you set this counter / disk size to No, you will also delete the warned pagefile.sys file. So where is this pagefile.sys folder likely located?
You need pagefile.sys in at least one place (so I don’t need to know if Windows ignores inst Functions for “all” drives), your largest partition, so there is room to store data, the easiest way is in the names of the im windows to control the size. ten

In my opinion, the settings are:
Disks: E:
Scan all files
Content (but slowly)
Test entire files
All packers
The page file being uploaded was E: pagefile.sys; my swap file was on my partition number 1 (C :).
Instead of setting the paging file to No, I manually set it to the ideal size, restarted and rerun the scan. No viruses were found this time.
Even though my problem seems to be resolved for now, I’m still curious to know what has changed. Thoughts ?
The pagefile.sys file is a little strange in that data is constantly paged out, so there may becases where a certain amount of data matches the signature of a laptop or computer.

Interesting. Do I need to format and rescan discs / files sent to backup for free?
No, I don’t think you need to do anything after adjusting the size. It wants to delete the file after restart.
You can set the “No paging data file” option for this partition / disk and click “Install”, which will completely delete the file after reboot, see the figure.
