One approach to troubleshooting Windows XP when someone’s system boots slowly is to disable the pesky and unnecessary Windows XP startup programs. By far the easiest way to temporarily disable running programs is to start the human body in safe mode, because Windows XP starts with an empty configuration in safe mode.
Make sure the computer has completed the Initial Power On (POST)Disconnect all external devices.Look for specific error messages.Run computer diagnostics.Start your computer in safe mode.Run Last Known Good Configuration.Check out the recent changes.Perform an in-place upgrade (repair installation) of Windows XP.
Another tool that can come in handy if Windows XP won’t start is System Restore. To use System Restore, first restart your computer by removing the wrinkles [Ctrl] [Alt] [Del]. When you see the language, select the operating system that will return at boot, or hear a separate beep, press [F8] towould display this Windows menu for additional options.
