Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) Service Does Not Start
Your Windows wireless connection is not working and the Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) service is not considered to be running, although it is automatically installed in the computer management applications with service and device configuration settings.
You may also receive the following error message when starting the Wireless Zero Configuration Service:
“Could not start the Zero Wireless Configuration service on the local computer.
Error 1058: The service cannot be started because it is disabled or
no enabled device is connected to it.

3. Double-click the WZC service
4. Click the Connection tab and test the screen as follows.
5. Go to the General tab; Make sure the WZC website is not disabled on a certain type of launch window. If support is disabled, click the down arrow and select Automatic. Click “Start” to start the WZC service.
If you set the Windows Zero Configuration Service to Automatic, the service will be configured every time you start your computer.
I learned today that our computer also had this problem (HP dv100 with Intel(R) Pro/Wireless adapter), so I did extensive web research to get it working (including this article).
As customers have noted, if you try to start the WZCSVC service in any MMC, you will get a parent services error code (1068, those parent services are RPC and something called NDIS protocol [No, I have no idea what it is.. .¬¬]). So if you check your company’s RPC service, it may need to be activated (required), but you won’t find another “service”.
I tHave also seen answers regarding disabling any third party wireless network management software (but I don’t have it so it’s not possible).

You can also run Windows Run, wide range services.msc and click OK.
Under the Services you want, scroll down to “Wireless Zero Configuration”, right click on the name and select Properties.
Select Stop in the Service Status interface to stop these services.
From the Startup Type drop-down menu, select Disabled to prevent the service from starting the next time you start Windows XP.
I find disabling this type of service useful, no matter how different your actual results may be. If everyone has disabled this service and cannot connect to your router after a reboot, try re-enabling this service to see if the service bypass is causing the problem. If not, make sure your (hostname wireless ssid) is in the list of preferred networks.
