Hi, I have a working Sony Pro Vaio 13 (Lynx Point-LP) with APTIO 4 UEFI AMI.
I want to update all available ROMs on BIOS unlock and many, if not all, locked BIOS options. You can open the BIOS with AMIBCP 4.55 and change some settings. Which method is interesting:
If I open my bios with AMIBCP, it appears – two sections, each with 13 blog posts (usually see the attached screenshot). It seems that the second section is just a reproduction of the first, apparently renamed and made available to the user. Some of the handles have also been changed. The funny thing is that this type of partition, available to the second user, might not show you all the options. The fourth section will only contain a few entries, the most important section is the complete series with everything in it. What my family and I don’t understand is the fact that two different handles are commonly used for the same driveway. Bit XD uses descriptor 0211 in the first section and 0C54 in the second section. Is it really possible again use the same handle or why use a different precaution?
I could change all the settings to USER, but I think there is a new better way to do it. I think there is a simple glitch in UEFI that causes and renders this partition. Riddles:
how do I find it?
is it a good idea?
where can I find it where is the best place to find it?
When to search I change the whole config in USER, so include all twice. Maybe there is a keyboard shortcut to unlock so many settings?
I downloaded the latest BIOS from Sony (http://download.sony-europe.com/PUB/VAIO …P0000321606.exe) and unpacked it. . What I don’t understand now is why there are definitely two flashing tools in the concept (WBFLASH and AFUWINx64). WBFLASH.com has a great file called WBFLASH.SCR that contains information about the BIOS file being flashed (eg version, etc.) and also compares it to the actual BIOS. There is also an UPDTW64.BAT file that calls AFUWINx64: Afuwinx64 V710440B.CAP /Capsule /P /B /ECX /n /S. So, it seems like most people have two programs doing the same thing, but I really don’t know why. This question is important to me in case II’m flashing a modified bios and don’t want to spoil it. On “old” laptops (before the 8 series), WBFLASH was most commonly used for flash memory, but Sony seems to have switched to AFUWIN. Is something like this possible and what screensaver is available?
I have updated the ME firmware to the latest version. If I flash my modified BIOS, do I also need to flash the ME firmware? If I need, wouldn’t it be better for me to change the Insider BIOS and flash yours?
— EDIT —
I think I know why at the moment these two partitions buy different handles for the same details. There are two modules (Setup and therefore SonySetupCallback) handling different components, but it seems that only SonySetupCallback is being called/loaded. The SonySetupCallback module is generally smaller and based on the setup module, I think. Funny, if I unpack the SonySetupCallback again with the IFR entry, it shows:
0x2D7F1 Main (0x6)
0x3C660 Advanced (0x20)
0x4464C Chipset (0x22) 0x4CBD8 Boot (0x24)
0x4D621 Security (0x3F)
0x4DEBF Save and Exit (0x53)
0x4E1B1 Main (0x7E9)
0x4E3F4 Advanced (0x803)
0x4E840 Boot (0x811)
0x4EDC5 Security (0x3F)
0x4F528 Exit (0x82A)
I would definitely guess that there is something like “suppress Main (0x6) if foobar”, so there is nothing like that when I really can’ I don’t know I don’t understand what Sony did there ^^
Also the order is wrong: in the correct bios it says Main | Advanced | Security | boot exit | but in terms of IFR, Home | read Advanced | Boots | Safe exit |. Security, but also boot switch. Any hints as to why this is happening?
If I process the same with config as module i, I get this:
0x37A51 main (0x6)
0x468C0 Advanced (0x20)< br> Chipset 0x4E8AC (0x22)
0x56E38 Loading (0x24)
0x57881 Security (0x3F)
0x5811F Save and Exit (0x53)
