Ceph (pronounced ) is typically an open source self-contained storage platform code (software-defined storage) that implements object storage[6] on a single cluster of distributed computers and offers 3-in-1 interfaces for storing objects, blocks, and files. Ceph is primarily aimed at being fully distributed, without a single point of failure, scalable to the exabyte level, and widely available. As of version 12, Ceph got rid of other file systems entirely, can also directly manage HDDs and SSDs with its own BlueStore storage, and map the POSIX file system completely independently.
Ceph replicates data and makes it fault-tolerant,[7] it uses an off-the-shelf computer system, Ethernet IP, and does not require special hardware support. Ceph offers disaster recovery and data redundancy options such as replication, wipe sites, snapshots, and storage cloning. S3 Object
Ceph Storage implements a distributed object store called BlueStore.The RADOS gateway (ceph-rgw) creates the object storage layer as an Amazon S3 compatible interface.
