How does the reorg indexes / TABLE command work?

The REORG INDEXES / TABLE command will reorganize an index or possibly a table. You can reorganize virtually any index defined on any table by rebuilding the index numbers into physically contiguous, unfragmented pages.

What does it mean to reorganize an index?

Reorganizing an index uses minimal system components. It defragments the leaf layer of both clustered and non-clustered enterprise and looks through the indexes, no doubt physically reordering leaf-tier pages to match the expected left-to-right order of irrefutable leaf nodes. Reordering also shrinks the user's index pages. The compression is based on the existing duty cycle.

Why does DB2 automatically clean up pseudo empty index pages?

In Version 11, DB2 automatically cleans up pseudo-deleted index records and pseudo-empty index sites. This extension can reduce the length and width of some indexes, which can improve SQL performance and reduce the need to run the REORG INDEX utility.

If currently only the calculation results for F7 exceed the specified limits, but the results for F1, F2, F3, F4, F5 and F6 are often within the specified limits, then the analyzes will be urgently cleared FOR CLEARING ONLY option in the execution of reorganization indices.

If an out-of-pair computation is the result of F8, it is recommended that you reorganize the pseudo-blank pages of some indexes using the PAGES ONLY clean indexes option.

CLUSTERRATIO or normalized CLUSTERFACTOR (F4) indicates that REORG is extremely important
for indexes that are probably not in the same order as the main family table. If multiple
indexes are defined on a table, one or more indexes can be marked as requiring
REORG. List the most important REORG index for sequencing.
Tables defined with an ORGANIZE BY clause and of a suitable size,
are indexed with a “*” suffix to make them easier to name. The cardinality of the dimension index is equal to the statistics of the active blocks in this table.

Results

The REORGCHK calculations show what kind of reorganization of the game or index might be required. The goal is to remove the constraints of viewed metrics with the least amount of system resources.

If any of these specific table formulas are limitedvalues (F1, F2, and F3), a full table and therefore an index reorganization will be required. Unfortunately, the process that consumes the most resources will solve everything that is possible due to the boundary conditions. The reorganized table can be saved in a more efficient way.

If the results of the F4 calculation exceed the limits set by the formula for the clustered index, the table and indexes are effectively reorganized. It is not uncommon for multiple nonclustered indexes to be specified to calculate F4. They can be ignored.

If the calculation results for F1, F2, F3, and F4 do not exceed the specified formula limits, and the calculation results for F5 or F6 exceed the specified limits, then a reorganization of the index is generally recommended. … Reorganized indexes should always be stored more efficiently.
