You will definitely not notice any speedup, as the option in question only affects DLLs and system files that have not been viewed recently (so this is validIt’s a very good bet that you shouldn’t use them in the future). You’re more likely to get a faster computer if you put it all together.

Con. When accessing these directories, they need to be unzipped, so access will be slower.

Right-click the General folder and select Properties. On the General tab, select Advanced to clear advanced attributes. Under “Compress Attributes” or “Sometimes Encryption”, uncheck “Compress Content Time” to save disk space. Press Wait OK, then you must apply.

Is it worth it? It always matters. You need to determine how often you access the “old” files and whether it is important (something – it depends on your computer) to reduce access to many of these files, but the most important factor that a person can have is how the way you need a rescue disk.

Anyway, I am running Windows on a dedicated computer with the minimum amount of disk space assigned to “C:” (20 GB). I just activated the Shrink Old Files to Files package to increase the disk cleanup from 1.4 GB of available space to 4.22 GB actually, which was enough for my needs 🙂

Compressing old files is a special feature of Disk Cleanup Gun (Cleanmgr.exe) in Windows XP, but Home does not delete files. Images that take up most of the family’s space – audio, graphics and video files with extensions such as jpg, mp3 and moreover, avi – are already compressed.

This is definitely an old technical option that works very poorly on modern computers.

If you needbut the more space on your hard drive is probably due to the fact that you store a lot of MP3 documents or movies there. Direct compression won’t change that. DivX videos, MP3, etc. are already compressed. All this leads to a tedious shutdown of your PC.
