Getting every error message when resizing or repartitioning a drive with a utility like Partition Magic can be a little unnerving. The point of error “ERROR #1513 INCORRECT ATTRIBUT POSITION IN FILE RECORD” occurs when you are no doubt trying to use an older version of Partition Magic to resize or repartition an NTFS hard drive. To fix the error, simply upgrade from Partition Magic 8.01 or later and try partitioning the NTFS drive again. If you have purchased Partition Magic version 8.0, you will need to purchase another additional patch from Symantec, which will unfortunately trigger your upgrade to version 8.02.

Click on the hard drive window to switch the hard drive, then select the Resize/Move option in the leftmost navigation pane. The hard drive window becomes active. Unallocated partitions and hard disk workspace partitions are separated by a moving cursor in the Partitions window.

Drag the slider that can increase or decrease the size of the new partition or the size of the unallocated space block. Reduce the partition size to free up additional unallocated space when creating a new partition.

Select the appropriate Preview option, then simply click Pending Operations to preview your changes and apply them to your hard drive first.

Click on a specific drive with unallocated space to partition it, then view the block of unallocated space.

Click “Create an additional partition” frequently in the broken navigation menu. The total height of the unallocated partition must be specified. You can change the gain in the size input field if you like.

Click Preview, then click Pending Operations to commit changes to your hard drive before applying them.

Click the Apply Changes button on the Important screen, or click the Apply button on the Current Pending screen. Restart your computer. Your additional partition is now available in the operating system.

I’m having troubles with merging free space into my D partition. I was lucky enough to have a 30 GB drive with 3 partitions:

C Fat32 5 GB
・D NTFS 12GB
· NTFS 11 GB

I deleted partition E and redistributed free space using Partition Magic 7.0. But I still get the error:

Error 1513: Wrong attribute position in file entry

I ran Checkdisk with the ‘r’ command, but that didn’t solve your problem. I tried to merge D and E by re-creating the E NTFS partition and using the “Merge Partitions” command in Partition Magic, but still got a similar error message. Scanning the drive with Norton System Works mentions a security descriptor issue but does not fix the issue on reboot as claimed.

what does non system disc or disc error mean

How can I free up this space, about 11 GB if you need the D partition? I create the latest backup and format the user’s hard drive. Windows 98 is for partition C and I’m getting old because Windows 98 won’t boot.

I’m using XP Windows Home Edition.
