You may have encountered an error code pointing to the Windows Fourcc xvid codec. It turns out there are several ways to fix this problem, and we’ll get to that soon.

For home veterans, we’re all familiar with FourCC Changer from fourcc.org, a little utility that lets your family change the video stream. p>

If you’ve used it before, we know it’s a great little Windows program to use as a last resort when AVI files won’t play. Since FourCC Changer is only available for the main Windows platform: Free option for Windows, Linux (32 additional 64 bits) and MacOS X (Intel).

This application supports other packages, offers a recording function, and is very fast, even for uploading to network shares.

Before You Start …

Before considering this type of application, be aware that changing the FourCC will not suddenly convert your video source to a different format. Better to trick your media player into coming up with a new codec / format. Only
Therefore, use theIt’s when the person really knows what you are doing.

The reason this can sometimes “fix” a good durable “broken” AVI is because some codecs have a lot in common and in some cases can in many cases decode a video that was originally intended for the codec you were using … do not provide. An example for MPEG4, DIVX in combination with XVID shows a lot in common, given the origin of DivX 😉 this is not surprising.

Use The FourCC Changer

I’m just assuming everyone knows why they need the FourCC code from their AVI files. I won’t go into details anymore, but these are simple and easy steps to use .AVI FourCC Fix files

First

To add files to the list, drag and drop or click “Select video fileNS”. You can add multiple files in one word, or if you use drag and drop, you can even add an entire directory – all AVI files located in the submit pages and subdirectories will be suggested automatically.
Drag and drop and does not work on all platforms.
1) MacOS X buyers have to drag the dropdown to the dock icon.
2) Windows users also drag and drop the app,
3) Linux users can only delete and drag and drop mounted volumes.
The files you have selected will definitely appear in the list on the right.

Create backup

Optionally, you can use Create Backup to automatically back up all of your personal files on your list. An incredibly identical filename is appended with “_bak” before the extension, so example.avi will likely have example_bak.avi as the recording file.

Determine current and new FourCC

The next concept is to introduce the current FourCC and the FourCC you want to replace it with. You will find that the dropdown menu may already contain a list of “aboutgeneral “FourCC codes. Also note that the FourCC code is case sensitive !!

The “Restore QNAP Recording” button automatically fulfills the FourCC requirements for people using this application to restore their Surveillance Station recordings.

Change FourCC

Selecting “Edit FourCC” searches for the current FourCC that you entered for each report in the list and, if found, replaces it entirely with the new FourCC code. This will work very quickly if your AVI files are on the correct network share.

Please note that the new FourCC code cannot take longer than the old FourCC code. Therefore, if your FourCC code has become “RLE”, you will not be able to change the site to “DIVX” (it doesn’t make sense anyway).
