If you and your family need to format a USB stick, hard drive, SDD, or other FAT32 storage format, you’ve come to the right place.
In this article, we will see how the file system works, the FAT32 standard and various ways to structure a FAT32 storage device using Windows 10.
What Is A File System?
A history system is a standardized alternative way of organizing data on a computer room device, such as a USB stick or hard drive.
The file system divides the beautiful storage device into virtual compartments, almost like a wall of mailboxes, and keeps track of all the information stored in each mailbox.
Some of the simpler file system formats for portable storage devices are FAT32, NTFS, and ExFAT.
FAT32 Versus Other Formats
Right click on the USB drive you want to format and do “Format”. Step 2. Set for disk notification and USB file system. Assign a new partition name, file structure (NTFS / FAT32 / EXT2 / EXT3), cluster length and area for the selected partition, then click е OK.
Of these two or three popular formats, FAT32 is the oldest and most widely used. Each operating system allows you to read and write from a FAT32 formatted USB key.
At the same time, macOS canIt only reads golf NTFS disks and you will need to attach third party software to write the stream back to the disk.
Although FAT32 is extremely supported, the maximum disk and file sizes are severely limited when evaluating for newer formats such as NTFS and ExFAT:
Maximum disk size | Maximum manual file size | window | macOS | Linux | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
FAT32 | 32 (Windows) GB up to 16 TB (other operating systems) | 4 GB | Read / Write | Read / Write | Read / Write |
NTFS | 8 Po * | 16 EB ** | Read / Write | Read | Read / Write |
ExFAT | 128 Po * | 16 EB ** | Read / Write | Read / Write | Read / Write |
* 1 petabyte equals approximately 1000 terabytes
** 1 exabyte equals approximately one million terabytes
Please note that the maximum size of a computer and file is NTFS and therefore ExFAT is so large that there is practically no limit. (But it would be nice to have some kind of 128PB USB stick, wouldn’t it?)
FAT32 on the other hand, the 4GB max file size is practically zero as phones can now output 4K video. It’s also a little harder to format the drive better than 32GB FAT32 on Windows 10.
The only reason you format almost any drive to FAT32 these days is for personalization. For example, if you need to start up an old computer that is compatible with a different operating system, you can back up some of its files. But you need to be sure that none of these files are generally better than 4GB. They
If users want to use FAT32, you can format the drive in the car in Windows 10.
Important note. Be sure to back up all very important files before formatting the disc. Even make two backups and save one to a remote computer repair service like Google or Dropbox Drive.
Formatting the disk will erase all data associated with the data in which the situation is present.
